Memorial Day Visit
Chuck and Andrea visited us this Memorial Day. We had a quiet family weekend eating and catching up. The weather was great until Monday which was rainy. Mary was not around much because it was her first three days of work.
The center of attraction of course was Atticus.

Joan's Retreat

Retirement Parties
Joan had two retirement parties. The first, a dinner, was for all 65 retirees this year. It was a jolly time and it was really a treat to see the hoards who have appreciated Joan's work over the past 15 years. The second was an afternoon reception in Louisville in which Mary and Annie (and Atticus) joined. It was a smaller venue for the group that worked in the Literacy department. There are more pictures for you to see.

Old Boat
Here is our old boat, Angelita and 8 meter. It was made for the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles and it was said that it won. We bought it from Owen Churchill in the early 1960's. We sold it a few years later. It was moved north to Sausalito where it rotted. In the early 1980's it was rebuilt for the 1984 Olympics as a show piece. I found an article about it. Then it dropped out of sight. I googled it a few days ago and found it was owned by a Samuel W Croll. I contacted him and he was good enough to send me a few pictures of it and updated me. It was rebuilt in 1997 and he has had a very successful sailing career with it as of late.

Visiting DC
Again we visited our son, Chuck in DC. His neighborhood, SE, is gentrifying as can be seen. He is two blocks from the Nationals (Baseball) stadium and one block from a Metro Stop (Navy Yard). Here are more pictures.
Theodore Roosevelt Island
We visited the Teddy Roosevelt Island which houses the monument to our 26th. President of the United States. My first impression was Lenin when I saw the statue. We wandered around the island. Here are a few shots.
The Frogs.
We visited the Frogs at the National Geographic Building in DC. It was quite a show. Here are a few more pictures.
Great Falls Va,
| Great Falls Park At Great Falls, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather Gorge. We enjoyed the 15 mile trip on a Sunday with Chuck and Andrea. Here are a few pictures from the park |
